School Ties Connects Emmett, Idaho and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The Cheffie primary school in Addis Ababa has received their materials. They will begin communications with the Emmett Middle School in Emmett, Idaho!

School Ties received an email from a teacher in Idaho asking for more information on the School Ties project. As it turned out, this wonderful teacher was actually my teacher in the 5th grade! Mrs. Fisher! We couldn’t be more pleased to begin this project in Idaho with a wonderful bunch of 5th grade teachers.

Here are some of the ways they plan to implement the School Ties project into their curriculum:

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.5.4 Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.5.10 Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of discipline-specific tasks, purposes, and audiences.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.5.1 Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 5 topics and texts, building on others’ ideas and expressing their own clearly.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.5.6 Adapt speech to a variety of contexts and tasks, using formal English when appropriate to task and situation. (See grade 5 Language standards 1 and 3 here for specific expectations.)

An excited Thank You to all involved!
